With Christmas festivities in full swing and plenty of yummy festive food to enjoy, there are some items on our Christmas tables that need to be kept away from our four-legged friends.
Here is a list of festive foods that your dog can enjoy and some that are potentially toxic to your dog:
Christmas food your dog can enjoy;
Turkey meat (but no bones or skin - cooked bones are a no-no for your pooch as they can splinter and cause internal damage and skin is too high in fat content, can also be full of seasoning which can upset your dogs tummy)
Potatoes
Peas
Carrots
Brussel Sprouts
Cooked Salmon (no smoked salmon - can contain parasites fatal to dogs and is high in salt)
Lamb meat
Green Beans
Eggs
Christmas food to keep away from your dog:
Christmas ham (fed in small amounts is ok, but the high sodium and fat content of ham is dangerous for your dogs pancreas when fed in high amounts, best to feed the turkey meat instead!)
Chocolate - highly toxic to your dog due to the chemical theobromine
Christmas pudding - contains dried fruits such as grapes which are toxic to your dog
Mince pies - currants, raisins and sultanas are toxic to dogs
Stuffing - contains garlic and onions which are toxic to dogs
Artificial sweetener xylitol - can be found in anything sweet and is highly toxic to dogs
Alcohol - causes illness and your dog will not understand what is going on when they experience the effects of alcohol such as unsteadiness and drowsiness
We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and PAWtastic New Year full of healthy and happy festivities!!
